According to TripAdvisor 'Porto is the heart of the Port wine industry and a visit to the city isn't complete without visiting some of the Port wine cellars, for a tasting of different kinds and qualities of Port.'
Magnificently situated on the great gorge of the River Douro, the 'granite city' is best known for its striking bridges and much celebrated wine which is stored in huge casks and savoured by visitors from all over the world.
Besides wine, the city has many unique attractions, including the ancient Ribeira riverside district, a warren of narrow, twisting streets and shadowy arches that was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1996. The ongoing restoration of this lively quarter is attracting a growing number of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
